Rethinking River Walk lights

City Manager Sheryl Sculley and other officials huddled in the cold Wednesday night near Marriage Island on the River Walk to look at holiday light display options for the 2012 holiday season.

The tree-wrapped LED lights introduced last year and traditional dangling lights — both of the incandescent and LED variety — were placed on three nearby River Walk cypress trees.

Jim Mery, interim director of downtown operations, said the city hasn’t decided on a lights configuration for this year.

“There is nothing definite until we get all the stakeholders involved,” Mery said. “All this was was an opportunity to look at the dangling lights.”

He also couldn’t say whether the city is likely to spend more money this holiday season if there is a change.
